Sunday observations
First things first: yes, it's cold out there. The idea, however, is not to go outside. Kinda like a friend of mine in Arizona says about going outside in the summer in the Valley - you just don't do it.
Now, on to more important things... relatively speaking:
Now, on to more important things... relatively speaking:
- The New England Patriots have now won more consecutive games than any other team in NFL history - 18 in a row. And it will mean absolutely nothing - nothing, mind you - if they don't win their last game in Glendale in two weeks.
- My $0.02 about the movie Cloverfield: it's obvious, isn't it? Every other sci-fi horror flick has been from the point-of-view of the so-called "heroes" or "expert scientists" who are going to save the world. Well, this one is from the POV of the people who get in the way of the monster. Think about it that way, and it makes sense. Other than that - it doesn't look like a very good movie.
- Something that went under the radar this week was that the Brewers re-signed Chris Capuano and avoided arbitration on a contract for 2008. Part of me wonders if this will be a key move for the team, or a big mistake. Of course, I really wonder about the Gagne signing, but that's just me.
- Speaking of MLB: Ritalin use is apparently up in baseball clubhouses. I guess if you can't have amphetamines, you go with the next best thing. That's the thing about drug use: someone will always find something to replace what's missing.
- I love how there's a warning label on the newly-released DVD's of Sesame Street: Old School (1969-74), saying that it's not suitable for younger children. The second volume has this exact disclaimer: "These early Sesame Street episodes are intended for grown-ups and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child." Oh, boy. Just throw away my entire childhood in one fell swoop, why don't ya?
- Congrats to Scott Nichol, who not only scored the game-winning goal on Saturday for Nashville at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, but he also scored it short-handed - one of two that he scored on the night to set a franchise record for most shorties in one game. Oh, and way to go Mr. Dumont, setting the franchise mark with an 11-game point streak.
